There is no such thing as a tone-deaf person, only unsuitable teaching. In the tuition I offer, the chance to learn music is also open to students who may have received critical remarks, were not considered "talented" enough, did not behave well in music lessons or had no wish to practise, and so perhaps gave up learning an instrument. With patience and time invested, negative thoughts and unpleasant experiences can be rewritten. Absolute attention plays an extremely important part in this: attention directed at the child or adult who is learning, expressed in time spent with quality music.
I believe that those who engage with music not only as listeners but as students live a far more beautiful, richer and more colourful life.
